
A little more than a week has passed since the premiere of the television version of the popular video game The Last of Us, and the show has already been given a renewal for a second season.
The new post-apocalyptic series, which is based on the popular video game franchise of the same name, tells the story of a man named Joel (Pedro Pascal), who is tasked with smuggling a young girl named Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across the United States. The video game franchise of the same name has received widespread acclaim over the course of its history.
Ellie is resistant to the virus and thus may hold the key to finding a cure for it. This story takes set 20 years after a pandemic that decimated humans and caused modern civilization to be eradicated. The epidemic was caused by a mutant fungus that infected scores of people.
What begins as a simple assignment quickly turns into a gruelling and excruciating trip as they are forced to travel across the United States together and depend on each other for survival.
The first two episodes of the show, which were created by Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann, have already been a success, and the teasers for the show have amassed more than 100 million views across social media platforms.
In a statement announcing the second season, Neil said, “I’m humbled, honoured, and frankly overwhelmed that so many people have tuned in and connected with our retelling of Joel and Ellie’s journey.” Neil was referring to the fact that so many people have tuned in and connected with the story of Joel and Ellie’s journey.
He added that the collaboration between Craig, the ‘incredible’ cast and crew and HBO had ‘exceeded my already high expectations’.

The Last of Us is available to watch on Sky and NOW, with new episodes released on Mondays.
