Bobby Brazier has had a successful debut on Strictly Come Dancing, but some have questioned why he was paired with Dianne Buswell despite a major difficulty.
During the first three weeks of the BBC reality dancing competition, Bobby, 20, and his dance partner Dianne Buswell, 34, both delighted the judges.
However, in week four, the judges critiqued the couples’ tango, and many spectators identified their height disparity as a crucial cause.
Many viewers were left asking why Bobby had not been paired with pro dancer Nadiya Bychkova, who is 5’7 inches taller than Bobby and Dianne.
Despite being a fan favourite, Nadiya was not assigned a partner this year, which meant she would not perform in the main lineup.
The stated reasons for the coupling have emerged, leaving viewers questioning why Dianne was picked for Bobby over Nadiya.
Speaking to The Sun about the planning process for the pairings, a TV insider said: ‘At almost 6ft tall in heels, Nadiya is by far the tallest of all the pros.’
‘The only person she could have been paired with is Bobby, who stands at 6 ft 2 inches – it was expected that they would form a duo on this series.’
However, Strictly officials believed there was’something weird’ about teaming 20-year-old Bobby with 34-year-old Nadiya, according to the source.
Despite the fact that Bobby and Dianne had the same age difference, BBC executives are claimed to have had a specific motive for matching them together.
‘It’s not solely about the actual age gap. It’s also about appearances. So long as they both have the same boy or girl-next-door look, it works.’
Bobby and Dianne’s score dropped slightly to 30 on Saturday after dancing to David Bowie’s Fashion after getting an outstanding 32 during Movie Week.
Even though their score was lower than Movie Week, it was still higher than the 29s they received in weeks one and two.
Bobby said on Sunday that he’s been getting Strictly support from fellow contender Eddie Kadi, who won the dance-off against Jody Cundy.
