The Voice viewers have been singing the show’s praises after an ‘important’ conversation about mental health aired.
Coaches Anne Marie and Will.i.am discussed their own anxiety and experiences with therapy in a candid chat on Saturday night’s show.
Viewers were quick to thank the musicians and the show’s producers for shining a light on the reality of living with a mental illness, with some feeling emotional after the exchange.
‘During the process of making my album, I started doing therapy,’ 2002 hitmaker Anne Marie began.
‘Do you struggle with anxiety?’, Black Eyed Peas member Will asked, to which Anne Marie replied: ‘Yeah, that’s why I went to therapy.’
Will added that he too struggles with anxiety, noting: ‘There’s a lot of folks that struggle with that.’
‘I’ve tried yoga, therapy, meditation, I’ve tried so much,’ Anne Marie added.
‘I feel like now, I need to speak about it, because if I can help someone else, that would make the world better, wouldn’t it?’
Will responded with a smile: ‘Yeah, that’s awesome, I’m proud of you.’
Spreading the love on Twitter after the pair’s deep chat, one viewer wrote: ‘@AnneMarie and @iamwill talking about their struggles with anxiety and therapy so openly, hope it helps others I love them.’
‘Thank you to #TheVoiceUK for including that important exchange with @AnneMarie saying she suffers with anxiety and went to therapy. It’s so important for people to know it’s okay,’ another person wrote.
Anne Marie and Will’s chat came just before a contestant took to the stage, 16-year-old Mila, who discussed her own battle with anxiety with cameras.
The teen delivered a stunning performance of You Can’t Stop The Girl by Bebe Rexha, causing Anne Marie, as well as Sir Tom Jones, and Olly Murs, to turn their chairs.
Anne Marie told the schoolgirl that she could ‘relate’ to her performance ‘a lot’ and she could ‘hear your nerves come through,’ but was adamant Mila had ‘more to give.’
‘I could hear emotion, and that really gets to me,’ she said.
