Geralt of Rivia, played by Henry Cavill, is a fierce warrior, as he’s proven time and again since The Witcher originally aired on Netflix in 2019.
The new full teaser for season 3 volume 1 – which will be released later this month – has revealed battle sequences that might be the protagonist character’s most vicious and bloodthirsty yet before Liam Hemsworth takes over… possibly even rivalling the classic action from the first ever episode.
The two-and-a-half-minute teaser begins with Geralt approaching a monument in a ruin surrounded by flowers with his surrogate daughter Ciri (Freya Allan) and his old girlfriend Yennefer (Anya Chalotra).
‘Neutrality. It won’t earn you a monument, but it’ll keep you alive,’ Geralt says, presumably implying a choice between survival and choosing a side in a conflict.
Ciri, who was previously taught in the ways of the Witchers at Kaer Morhen, is now focusing on how to handle the great magical power she possesses, perfecting her talents with Yennefer looking over her.
During a brief scenario in which a property is burned to the ground, Geralt emphasises that he “won’t forsake Ciri,” having grown like a father to her over their perilous voyage.
In response to Geralt’s statement on neutrality, the devoted and amusing bard Jaskier (Joey Batey) says, ‘Neutrality has costs, too.’
‘You’re right,’ Geralt admits… a reply that unnerves Jaskier greatly.
In a high-octane scenario that will definitely have spectators on the edge of their seats, Geralt locks a guy in a headlock before bringing his blade around from the back of his neck and slashing him to death as blood streams forth.
As Yennefer highlights Ciri’s part in the unexplained sequences of occurrences that continue to torment them, someone is depicted going at hyper-speed via a portal.
‘Everything that’s happening – it’s all connected. And she’s at the centre of it,’ the mage states.
Meanwhile Tissaia (MyAnna Buring), Yennefer’s mentor, warns of Ciri’s significance: ‘If war is coming, there is no hiding her from it.’
Rience (Chris Fulton), the wicked, fire-loving Rience, reappears, blasting flames as Yennefer uses her talents to create a wildfire.
Geralt and Yennefer’s relationship may be icy, having previously been lovers before being torn apart, but they’re poised to attend a very fancy gala together in season three.
Yennefer chooses a halterneck bedazzled top for the event, while the former wears an uncommon silver flowered jacket. ‘Are you sure about this?’ she asks her monster-fighting partner.
‘Are you?’ he retorts, as they join in the dancing together – for what aim, we’re yet to find out.
The Witcher’s latest season will, of course, involve more brutal, terrible animals, with Ciri being required to show what she’s learned in the art of combat while taking on monsters both alone and with assistance.
‘History has a habit of repeating itself,’ Geralt says, hinting that what lies ahead may be more dangerous than what they’ve encountered in the past, which is saying a lot.
‘The dangers we’ve seen foretell an even more menacing future.’
As his attachment with Ciri strengthens, Geralt reveals that he is experiencing’real terror’ for the ‘first time’ in his life.
‘We’re Witchers,’ she says, while the duo are sharing a moment on a clifftop.
One scene depicts Geralt in a woodland with a silhouetted figure – presumably Yennefer – kissing beneath the moonlight.
We’re ready for savage fight scenes, terrible creatures, blazing romance, and a father-daughter pair taking on their adversaries.
The Witcher season 3 volume 1 is due to be released on Thursday June 29 on Netflix.
