This Morning lost 200,000 viewers when Holly Willoughby made her much-anticipated speech.
On Monday [June 5], the Dancing On Ice anchor, 42, addressed the latest incident involving her former co-host Phillip Schofield for the first time.
Phillip, 61, just resigned from the programme and from ITV altogether after confessing to lying about an affair with a much younger male colleague.
Following his deception, he was fired from his talent agency of 35 years, and ITV said they felt ‘badly let down’ as Phillip earlier denied any form of connection.
Holly began the programme by asking whether the fans were okay, before stating it felt’very weird indeed’ to be there without Phil, as she now co-hosted with Josie Gibson.
Holly was heard holding back tears as she admitted she felt ‘shaken troubled, let down,’ and had given ‘our love and support to someone who was not telling the truth.’
Following the host changes, fresh numbers show that viewers have flocked to the show.
A total of 1,633,410 viewers turned in to see Holly address the current turmoil, however according to Mail Online, nearly 200,000 viewers switched out after she finished her speech.
Phillip first kept a quiet profile, but then gave two shocking interviews to The Sun and the BBC, outlining his side of the incident and how the consequences has affected his mental health.
Holly stated on her Instagram Story that she was ‘sad’ to have been lied to following the revelation of his clandestine romance.
She said: ‘It’s taken time to process yesterday’s news. When reports of this relationship first surfaced, I asked Phil directly if this was true and was told it was not.
‘It’s been very hurtful to now find out that this was a lie. Holly.’
This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
