Funny Woman

In this exuberant 1960s comedy-drama, Gemma Arterton shines as blonde bombshell Barbara. It’s based on a Nick Hornby novel about an ambitious northern lass trying to make it big on TV as a comedy star, despite the fact that all the snobbish southern sexists think she’s a halfwit because she talks strange. It’s hardly subtle, but it has a rough-and-ready appeal and a good supporting cast, including a raddled Rupert Everett as Barbara’s agent.
Box set tomorrow.

The Wall is the name of a mining worker housing community where the amount of ‘fly-in, fly-out employees’ complicates Detective Trudeau’s (Isabel Richer) job of capturing a twisted killer. Her estranged daughter complicates everything (Maripier Morin).
