Sashaying and salsa-ing back on our screens is the BBC’s flagship show Strictly Come Dancing.

Back for 2022, we’ve already discovered that actor Will Mellor will be joining the line-up, and now another big name has been revealed… Coronation Street actress Kym Marsh.

But just who is Kym? And where have you seen her on TV before?

Here’s all you need to know.

Who is Kym Marsh?

Kimberley Gail (Kym) Marsh is a singer and actor. She’s 46 years old, born on June 13, 1976 in Whiston, Merseyside.

Her first moment in the spotlight came in 2001, when she appeared on reality TV competition Popstars.

Kym went on to win the show, being selected for band Hear’Say with Myleene Klass, Suzanne Shaw, Danny Foster and Noel Sullivan. Their debut song, Pure and Simple, went straight to number one.

Alas, the band was short lived – with Kym leaving in 2002, releasing her own album, Standing Tall, the following year.

She then moved into TV work, including a role on a very famous soap…

Who did Kym Marsh play on Coronation Street?

In 2006, Kym joined the cast of Coronation Street as Michelle Connor.

She first appears on the Cobbles as a barmaid at the Rovers Return, and quickly becomes involved in a range of dramatic storylines – including finding out that her baby was switched at birth.

Originally, the role was designed to be a cameo for Kym, but became a regular part.

Kym won the 2007 Best Newcomer award at the 2007 British Soap Awards for her portrayal of Michelle.

She departed ITV’s soap in December 2019 – and as of 2022 has been filming scenes for a new series of Waterloo Road, and potentially planning a move back to Corrie.

She has also presented BBC One’s Morning Live with Gethin Jones since 2020.

Who is Kym Marsh married to?

The soapstar is indeed married – to third husband, Army Major Scott Ratcliff.

The happy couple married in October 2021, after becoming engaged that July – with a whirlwind wedding reportedly planned to allow Kym’s ill father to watch his daughter tie the knot.

Kym and Scott had been together for three years, first meeting in 2018 and developing their romance over FaceTime.

Does Kym Marsh have any children?

While Kym and Scott don’t share any children together, they do have a blended family.

Kym had son David Cunliffe in 1995 and daughter Emilie Cunliffe in 1997, both from a previous relationship. She then married an actor called Jack Ryder in 2002, but they split in 2009.

She welcomed a daughter, Polly Lomas, in 2011 with Hollyoaks actor Jamie Lomas, to whom she was married from 2012 to 2014.

Very sadly, two years earlier in 2009, the pair had a son, Archie Jay Lomas, who was stillborn. Kym often pays tribute to her late son on social media, and has spoken of the loss on TV.

Scott is also a dad, with a six-year-old daughter named Renee from a previous relationship.

As well as being a mum and stepmum, Kym is also a grandma! As Emilie, now 25, welcomed son Teddy in 2019.

Is Kym Marsh on Instagram?

Yes, Kym is on Instagram – you can follow her at @marsh_kym.

She has a whopping 509,000 followers, who’ll hopefully be supporting her through the tough Strictly Come Dancing process – as well as voting for her every week.

Kym often posts family photos on Instagram, with husband Scott, daughter Emilie and her mum and dad – as well as glamorous shots from red carpet events from time to time.
