Billy Crystal knew precisely what fans wanted to see when he opted to celebrate his 75th birthday by recreating an iconic scene from When Harry Met Sally.
On Tuesday, the Hollywood actor and comedian celebrated his birthday with a fantastic side-by-side image comparison on Twitter.
Crystal was green with jealousy as he stood in a cream cable knit sweater, blue pants, and white sneakers, stooping towards the floor and clasping his hands together.
Alongside to it, he displayed the original identical posture and dress of him as Harry Burns in a shot from his 1989 romantic comedy with Meg Ryan.
‘Thank you all…’ he simply wrote in the caption – and the responses, of course, came flooding in.
‘Lots of love and respect @BillyCrystal,’ wrote Meet the Parents star Ben Stiller, alongside raised hands emoji.
The Merriam-Webster dictionary account responded in the style of one of its entries with: ‘Icon | noun | a person or thing widely admired especially for having great influence or significance in a particular sweater.’
Never a truer word, to be honest.
Author Margot Wood also shared her own attempt at a recreation of Crystal in the cream knitted jumper from the film, posed on the sofa reading the Stephen King novel Misery as Harry, complete with a fake beard drawn on.
The actor later reshared her efforts, commenting: ‘Love this!’
Comedian Richard Lewis also extended himself and his family’s best wishes.
‘Finally, you’re my age. You’re a blessed artist. I’m proud to have started our comedic journey together,’ he began, before jokingly adding: ‘I started reading your accomplishments 17 weeks ago and I’m just about halfway done.’
‘Far and away your greatest success is your wondrous family. Love from the Lewises,’ the comedian finished, sweetly.
Crystal has a strong comedy and hosting career in addition to his successful film career, which has featured films such as Analyze This and City Slickers, as well as the Monsters Inc franchise, where he portrays Mike Wazowski.
From 1990 and 2012, he hosted the Academy Awards nine times, second only to comic icon Bob Hope, who was in command on stage a remarkable 19 times between 1940 and 1978.
Jimmy Kimmel, this year’s host, is returning for his third time, and he wasted no time in remarking on the Will Smith and Chris Rock slap-gate from the 2022 event.
Crystal previously blasted Smith rushing to the stage to hit Rock following a joke he made about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith as ‘the most horrible occurrence’ and termed it ‘an assault’.
