Joe Wicks has talked candidly about shoulder discomfort he’s having, admitting it’s been ‘getting him down’.
On Sunday, the 38-year-old fitness sensation came to Instagram to offer a health update with his five million followers, confirming he’d undergone an MRI scan.
Joe, his adoring father, revealed that’small rips’ and a ‘boney cyst’ were discovered in his rotator cuff muscles.
He’ll have more testing to make sure the cyst isn’t causing any problems.
Joe, who has been experiencing pain in the area for more than a year, said in full: ‘Little update on my shoulder injury. It’s been clicking for a year now. It feels weak. It doesn’t feel right.’
He went on: ‘I had an MRI and I’ve got a couple of little tears, small little tears in my rotator cuff muscles.
‘Also, at the back of my scapula, I’ve got a boney cyst so I’m going to have a couple of tests when I get back to make sure it’s nothing naughty.’
Joe then frankly shared: ‘It’s getting me down man, just having that pain when you wake up, injury, just like having that pain when you wake up it’s aching, it’s affecting my training, it affects my mood. I love exercise so it’s really limiting.’
Joe is known for his open and honest interaction with his fans, and he recently discussed his decision to withdraw his five-year-old daughter Indie from school.
Joe and wife Rosie have a daughter Indie, a son Marley, four, and a newborn Leni, and the family of five is presently in America, with Joe explaining that the round-the-world tour is one of the reasons they’ve taken Indie out of school for the foreseeable future.
‘It’s not a permanent thing, but we want to have another year together,’ he said.
He clarified in an interview with The Times: ‘It’s not like I’m saying, I’m going to home school my kids and go and live on a farm in the middle of nowhere. It’s really just about our lifestyle.’
Joe faced some criticism for taking his daughter from school, but he pointed out that in other parts of the world, such as Scandinavia, schooling begins later.
He said in a Q&A with fans that the homeschooling decision came as they ‘just love being together as a family and want to spend more time with the kids while we can’.
‘[Indie] had a great year in reception but we have always loved teaching the kids at home and want the freedom to travel more and explore the world.’
He stressed, however, that his intentions were not final.
‘She might go to school next year,’ he confirmed.
What is a bone cyst?
According to the NHS, a bone cyst is a ‘fluid-filled hole that form in bones’.
The NHS’s website adds: ‘They’re not usually serious, but they sometimes need to be treated with surgery.’
