A Place in the Sun’s Jonnie Irwin has begun hyperbaric oxygen therapy amid his battle with terminal lung cancer.
The 49-year-old TV presenter confirmed in November that tumours had spread to his brain, and Jonnie has now taken to social media to deliver an update about his treatment.
Alongside photos of a bridge in Newcastle and a zip-up portable chamber, Jonnie wrote on Instagram: ‘And at the end of this walk…is this…hyperbaric oxygen therapy. (sic)’
A hyperbaric chamber provides patients with pure oxygen to breathe, and due to the extreme air pressure, patients’ lungs are able to take in an increased amount of oxygen.
In a lighthearted post earlier in the week, he shared a photo holding a Magnum ice cream in the car and said it was a hastily bought Valentine’s Day present for his wife.

In a lighter post earlier this week, he published a selfie of himself in the car with a Magnum ice cream, claiming it was a last-minute Valentine’s Day gift for his wife.
He quipped: ‘Last minute Valentines gift for my wife. Oh yes romance is blooming here in The Toon. Maybe a Greggs for breakfast in bed would’ve been better?!’

In August 2020, Jonnie was diagnosed with lung cancer and told he was terminally sick while filming an episode of A Place in the Sun in Italy.
‘Within a week after flying back from filming, I was given six months to live,’ he had stated.
‘I had to go home and tell my wife, who was looking after our babies, that she was on her own pretty much. That was devastating. All I could do was apologise to her. I felt so responsible.’
Jonnie has also stated his desire to spend as much time as possible with his family.
‘I owe it to Jess and our sons,’ added the TV star, who has four-year-old Rex and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac with Jessica Holmes. Some individuals in my position have bucket goals, but I just want our family to do as much as we can.
‘I don’t know how long I have left, but I try to stay positive and my attitude is that I’m living with cancer, not dying from it.’
