Jonnie Irwin has revealed the one thing he ‘wishes’ he’d done differently after being diagnosed with terminal cancer.
After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, the A Place In The Sun singer, 49, stated in November 2022 that he may only have “months to live.”
He’s subsequently talked openly about his condition, which began in his lungs but has now progressed to his brain, and even discussed what he considers “mistakes” in his preparation for living with cancer.
Jonnie, who has four-year-old Rex and two-year-old twins Rafa and Cormac with his wife Jessica Holme, stated that he first withheld his illness from the public because he was concerned about being unable to care for his family.
Explaining his financial situation on the OneChat podcast with AIG life, the doting dad-of-three noted: ‘I didn’t take critical illness insurance out and therefore I had to keep working.’
He went on: ‘Without work, I’ve got no means of paying the bills. And if I had taken the critical illness insurance out, that could’ve covered my outgoings and I probably could’ve told the world a lot sooner.’
Jonnie also said: ‘I thought I was doing well just taking out life insurance. It’s one positive thing and helped me a great deal in getting a financial position in life to know my wife and my boys are more secure.
‘But how I wish I’d taken out that extra cover.’

He also heartbreakingly explained: ‘The only reason I kept it secret is because I’ve got to earn, I’ve got to feed my babies, pay the bills.
‘And as soon as you say you’ve got cancer, people just write you off.’
He added: ‘I had to live with it as a secret.
