Jordan North‘s new post has been disclosed, after his departure from BBC Radio 1.
Shortly after his departure was announced, radio listeners learned that Roman Kemp would be departing his Capital FM breakfast programme.
Rumours circulated that Jordan would take his place. That suspicion is now formally proven.
Capital announced that Jordan will be joining Global and filling the vacancy on the breakfast programme, stating that he is ‘thrilled’.
‘I am beyond excited to be joining Global and to wake up the nation every morning on Capital – I can’t wait to start working with the amazing team here and get stuck in, to create the most fun and entertaining breakfast show,’ he said on Wednesday’s show.
‘Getting to host Capital Breakfast has always been a dream of mine and it’s a once in a lifetime opportunity that I simply couldn’t turn down.’
Capital’s Chris Stark, who formerly worked on Radio 1, said he was ‘ecstatic’ to rejoin with his old colleague, as was fellow breakfast show presenter Sian Welby.
‘Together with Sian, the three of us are so excited to bring you the new Capital Breakfast Show. It’s going to be a LOT of fun!’
Sian, who recently appeared on This Morning as a new presenter, said that she believes the Capital listening audience ‘are going to love Jordan in the same way they do Roman’.
She continued: ‘He’s a normal down to earth, humble lad, who’s already part of our friendship group, so expect the same level of mickey taking and silliness. I want the listeners to welcome him with open arms, and treat him like they do us!
‘Jordan has some of the most ridiculous true stories that I can’t wait for people to hear. It’s going to be a lot of fun! Strap yourselves in, it’s gonna be another wild ride!’
When Jordan’s departure from Radio 1 was announced, Jamie Laing, a former Made In Chelsea star, was named in his stead.
The radio station was accused of ‘classism’, while Jamie was nervously questioned on live TV about ‘getting Jordan terminated’.
Jordan thanked listeners who had listened to him on Radio 1 for years and everyone who worked with him in an emotional Instagram post.
‘Hello everyone 👋 I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all my wonderful colleagues / talented producers at Radio 1 who many I consider to be friends for life and will miss greatly, you’ve all reached out to me over the past 24 hours and it really has meant a lot,’ he said.
‘To my amazing fellow presenters I wish I could thank you all personally, I’ve loved working with you it’s been an absolute blast! Big love to Katie Thisleton, Greg James, Arielle Free, Ricky, Melvin & Charlie, Dean & Vicky, Clara Amfo, Matt & Molly, Scott Mills, Grimmy, all the rest of you fantastic lot, and of course my partner in crime Vick Hope…I’ll miss being on air with you every day.
‘MOST IMPORTANTLY the biggest of thank yous to the fantastic listeners who have been really generous and always made me feel welcome, your kind words & messages have been so lovely, THANK YOU SO MUCH.
‘I’ll be back soon, and can’t wait to see you all again 😉.’
