Sian Harries, who is married to Rhod Gilbert, has discussed their recent visit to an emergency department that was described as being “totally jammed.”
The stand-up comedian, who is 54 years old and is undergoing treatment for cancer that is in the stage four advanced stage, recently postponed a string of live gigs after finding that he required more surgery.
Rhod made the announcement in July that he would be receiving treatment at the Velindre Cancer Centre in Cardiff and that he would be “disappearing for a while” in order to concentrate on his therapy and his health.
Despite this, he is trying to maintain a “optimistic” attitude as he gets ready to perform again in the new year.
Now, his wife Sian has disclosed that they were in the hospital this week, condemning those who were not wearing masks in a ‘rammed’ A&E department.
Taking to Twitter, she said: ‘A&E absolutely rammed with people with hacking coughs, we were only ones there wearing masks.
‘I just don’t get it,’ she wrote, as per the Mail Online.
Sian did not go into detail on why she and Rhod were in hospital, however replied to fans sending support with a series of heart emojis.
Rhod is eagerly anticipating the new year and plans to return to his tour as soon as possible, telling his fans he is ‘ making plans for 2023, so watch this space for info on the comedy stuff.’
‘There have been a lot of laughs in odd places, so I am not going to be short of material,’ he wrote on Facebook.
However he also revealed he was suffering gallstones and gallbladder infections that ‘kick like a donkey’ and will require surgery early in the New Year.
Seven of his January shows, in locations such as Bath and Swansea, will now be pushed back to the summer.
He took to Facebook again, writing: ‘Thanks again for all your kind words and support. As you probably know I’m recovering well from my cancer treatment and can’t wait to get back to work next year. Happy days.
‘Less happy days, I’ve been thrown another curveball in the form of gallstones and recurring gallbladder infections that kick like a donkey and need hospital treatment.
‘I am having surgery to remove the offending gallbladder, and this is scheduled to happen early in the New Year.’
The comedian thanked ‘each and every one of you for your continuing patience’ and added: ‘Rest assured, the show WILL go on.’
