Shane MacGowan has received a very special guest in the hospital.
The Fairytale of New York singer has been in the hospital since June due to major health problems.
Shane’s exact health is unknown, however he did suffer from the uncommon brain illness encephalitis last Christmas.
This is a potentially fatal disorder that causes the brain to enlarge and can result in loss of mobility and difficulties speaking.
His wife, Victoria Mary Clarke, has been keeping followers updated on his condition, including celebrity acquaintances who have paid him a visit.
This weekend, Irish artist Imelda May paid a visit to The Pogues’ star, which brightened his day.

Victoria, who married Shane in 2018, shared a romantic snapshot of the couple on X (previously Twitter).
Shane grinned as he leaned in for a hug with Imelda, who kindly placed a hand on his shoulder while he stayed on his bed, wearing a medical gown and with a tube over his face.
Victoria penned: ‘Shane is so happy to see @ImeldaOfficial!!! @ShaneMacGowan @poguesofficial’.
Fans were quick to give their good wishes in response to the cute snapshot.
‘So hard seeing this legend like this, really hope he’s back home soon,’ one wrote.

‘Nice to see Shane smiling bless him x’, penned another.
Imelda, 49, reshared the post too, writing cheekily: ‘My darlin’ Shane! @ShaneMacGowan So good to see you today. Best kisser. 😉’
The singer isn’t the first celebrity or acquaintance to pay Shane a visit in an effort to lift his spirits.
Shane was surprised earlier this month by his buddy, sound engineer Tom Creagh, who came to see him for his birthday.
Bruce Springsteen stopped by in May, before Shane was sent to the hospital for an extended stay the following month.
Victoria wrote about the moment online, beside a photo of the pair, ‘What an amazing honour and a beautiful experience to get a visit from The Boss!!!’
She added: ‘Such a truly wonderful man and a total genius!’
It’s unclear how long Shane will be in the hospital, but Victoria is hopeful that he’ll be home in time for the holidays.
Shane will also celebrate his 66th birthday on Christmas.
Victoria’s latest update on Friday (November 17) read: ‘Shane is feeling much better today!
‘I am so grateful to everyone who is willing him to get home for the Christmas!’
