In the bingo card of 2023, one thing we are pretty sure you didn’t have, was mustard-flavored Skittles.
Instead of lemon, banana, or mango-flavored sweets, you may now bite into a yellow Skittle and anticipate the tang of the sauce.
French’s is the brand that provides you mustard delight for your hot dogs and the like.
The weird collaboration is in honour of a day you’ve probably never heard of: U.S. National Mustard Day (5 August).
In anticipation of the occasion, French’s comes up with new ways to include their famous yellow condiment – in the past, it’s been mustard doughnuts and mustard beer.
They now have a monopoly on the sweets market.
The news of the cooperation was met with scepticism on social media, with many individuals dismissing the concept.
One person wrote: ‘What is the world coming too…. mustard flavour Skittles?!?!?’
Another admitted they were going to hurl at the idea and one said it was ‘disgusting’.
A further commenter added: ‘I’m not tasting the rainbow, what is this?’
Other’s hoped it was a prank: ‘Please tell me this is fake,’ penned one shocked writer. But alas, this is not a delayed April Fool’s.
Some, on the other hand, were more optimistic about the launch.
‘I need these. Mustard Skittles are coming and I need them,’ wrote one eager Twitter user.
Valda Coryat, North America vice president of marketing for McCormick & Company said: ‘From Mustard Ice Cream to last year’s viral mustard doughnuts, this year marks the fifth time French’s has gone all out with unique, flavourful innovations to celebrate National Mustard Day.
‘With the yellow holiday landing on August 5th, we knew we had to outdo ourselves.’
However, it appears that you won’t be able to get your hands on this condiment-flavored treat on this side of the pond until we have our own National Mustard Day here in the UK, which we’re not sure is a terrible thing.
