January is a popular time to look for a new job or company, especially as we slowly return to the boring reality of ‘regular life’ after the holidays.
And it appears that finding a new job is at the top of many Brits’ to-do list this year.
According to recent Reed.co.uk research, 75% of UK workers will be job looking this January, with many considering new year career aspirations.
The cost of living crisis appears to be making people reevaluate what they do – and how much they earn – with 9% planning to leave the business entirely.
According to the study, UK workers now prefer higher pay over flexible working, with less than one in ten (8%) looking for a job that offers a four-day work week.
In terms of particular, HR (67%), IT (62%), and financial services (62%), are now experiencing the most movement.
The leisure and tourist sector, on the other hand, is the least likely to see personnel transition between roles, with only 27% indicating that they are searching for a new job this year.
Similarly, safety and security, as well as marketing and public relations, are expected to see the least migration, with only 36% and 37% of workers in those industries intending to shift jobs, respectively.
Although money remains the top consideration (55%), workers are looking to relocate to improve work-life balance (20%) and job security (13%).
It’s also evident that each generation has different priorities when it comes to job hunting.
On the whole, Gen Z (15%) want more career opportunities – whereas those aged 56 and over value work-life balance (16%).
