Ant-Man returns for a third installment, cementing Paul Rudd’s place as one of the MCU’s senior statesmen.
The 53-year-old, best known for comedic classics like Clueless, is dressed casually for this worldwide junket, with a blue shirt over a white T-shirt and an everyman twinkle that earned him People magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive in 2021, a title that now belongs to Chris Evans, aka Captain America.
‘It makes a lot more sense for Chris to be awarded World’s Sexiest Man,’ adds Rudd. So, to whom would he wish the mantle to be passed on next? ‘Of course, we don’t have to confine it to the MCU,’ Rudd says.
‘There are a plethora of hot franchises out there with sexy living guys. But if I had to choose someone else, I’ve recently worked with Jonathan Majors, and have you met him in person? ‘Come on, let’s go!’
Fans of the Loki TV series will recognise Majors as ‘He Who Remains,’ a 31st century scientist attempting to avoid a multiversal battle between malevolent variations of himself.
However, Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania is his first major film role as the super-antagonist who defines the MCU’s ‘Phase 5’.
His variant in Quantumania is Kang The Conqueror, initially encountered by Michelle Pfeiffer’s character, Janet, a scientist who brings along her family, husband Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), teen granddaughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton) and daughter Hope (Evangeline Lilly), aka The Wasp, who despite being the first female hero to achieve MCU title status in Ant-Man And The Wasp (2018), is now in danger of being sidelined in her own movie.

‘I’m not gonna argue with you,’ says Lilly, when I tell her we’d have liked to see more of her in Quantumania.
But she wants a solo spin-off, not least because ‘there would be a lot more female creatives engaged if there was a Wasp standalone picture.’
Is there going to be one? ‘For the record,’ Lilly says, ‘I’m totally prepared and ready to go.’
Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania is out in cinemas on Friday
