Kevin Feige, the CEO of Marvel Studios, has announced that Spider-Man 4 will be directed by Tom Holland.
Following the success of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, which grossed over $1.9 billion worldwide and featured appearances from former Peter Parkers, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, this revelation was undoubtedly anticipated.
The head of Marvel Studios has now stated that the film is actively being written, with the plot already established.
With Maguire’s trilogy extending from 2002 to 2007, and Garfield beginning in The Amazing Spider-Man in 2012 and its sequel in 2014, Holland is the first Spider-Man to have his own fourth film.
In a new, wide-ranging interview, Feige discussed the future of the MCU as it launches Phase Five with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which opens in theatres on Friday.
‘All I’ll say is that we’ve got the story. We have enormous ideas for it, and our writers are just starting to put pen to paper right now,’ Feige said of Spider-Man 4.
Feige also said that Deadpool 3 will be Marvel’s first R-rated film, featuring Ryan Reynolds as the iconic anti-hero, Emma Corrin as a new cast member, and Hugh Jackman resuming his role as Wolverine.
Following his experience as an associate producer on the first X-Men film in 2000, the producer reflected on the ‘full circle’ sensation of working with Jackman again.
‘I remember sitting behind the camera — well behind the camera — at his audition for the film. It was his first on-set audition, and he flew up to Toronto to do a read with Anna Paquin,’ he said.
‘For him, and for me, and I think for all of the fans of Marvel, it’s unbelievable what has happened in those 23 years.’
He also revealed further information on Indiana Jones actor Harrison Ford’s MCU debut as Thaddeus Ross in Captain America: New World Order, revealing that he will play President of the United States in the film.
When asked about his connection with Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, he stated that the characters ‘had a history together, but in this picture, we’ll be witnessing the interplay between Captain America and the president of the United States in a manner that is simply wonderful’.
In other news, he said that the long-delayed Blade film starring Mahershala Ali will begin production later this year, after Yann Demange replaced original director Bassam Tariq in November.
