Brendan Fraser has humbly pondered on the six-minute standing ovation that he received for his performance in The Whale at the Venice Film Festival. He made this admission while simultaneously confessing that he still feels like a bit of an imposter in Hollywood.
The actor is presently riding a wave of popularity thanks to his appearance in the film, which has generated Oscars talk and is being termed his return role and part of the renaissance. The buzz around the Oscars has contributed to the actor enjoying a rush of popularity.
At the world premiere of the film, which took place in Venice in September, the 54-year-old actor was observed becoming choked up and becoming overcome with emotion at his reception. This response was later mirrored at the screening that took place during the London Film Festival.
As he stood to take the plaudits, he joked in a recent interview that he “was thinking I might be out the door fairly quickly if I hurry,” referring to the fact that he was about to leave.
As he thought back on the emotional video clip of him that went viral, he jokedly admitted that ‘clapping [is] hard’ for lengthy durations of time. He was referring to the fact that the clip showed him crying.
In an interview that aired on Wednesday’s episode of Late Night with Seth Meyers, Brendan admitted that he had the impression that the individuals timing the ovation had been a little too “heavy-fingered.”
‘I think it depends on who’s holding the stop-watch to tell you the truth,’ he commented as they discussed the varying lengths the ovation had been reported as.
The actor continued by saying that he later realised that shedding tears was an effective approach to deal with the circumstance.
He admitted: ‘I just broke out crying, it solved all the problems.’
The Mummy actor was also candid over his own place in the industry as he revealed he still hadn’t had a moment in his career where he thought he had made it, despite the success he’s enjoyed.
‘Nope. I don’t. I feel like I’m still waiting for someone to walk in and tell me that the jig is up.
‘They haven’t found me out yet but I know that I’m doing what I love and it’s a privilege. I’m really happy to be able to do that.’
Brendan plays the role of a despondent English teacher who weighs 600 pounds and is seeking to get back in touch with his estranged daughter in the film that was directed by Darren Aronofsky (played by Sadie Sink).
The celebrity has been very kind about his talented co-star, even going so far as to admit that the Stranger Things actress was so good that he frequently forgot his lines.
The Whale will be out in UK cinemas on February 3.
