Those who have seen Keira Knightley and Lily-Rose Depp’s holiday picture Silent Night have declared Christmas cancelled.
As the big day approaches, we’re knee-deep in wrapping paper and our Christmas watchlist, catching up on some of the year’s greatest new releases and Yuletide classics.
Despite being completely depressing, a new addition to Amazon Prime Video has already been lauded as a new “Christmas staple.”
Silent Night, which was released in 2021, appears to be a festive old film as we see Nell (Knightley), her husband Simon (Matthew Goode), and their children Art (Roman Gryphon Davis), Hardy (Hardy Gryphon Davis), and Thomas (Gilby Gryphon Davis) welcome their friends into their home to celebrate the festive season.
But it quickly becomes clear that this Christmas will be their last, as the group prepares for a toxic green mist to cover Britain and kill out the population, as it has done to most of the rest of the globe.
The government has offered a means for residents to avoid the agony, an exit pill, which the groups are preparing to swallow as the clock strikes midnight after their final night of joy.

Doesn’t sound very Christmassy, does it?
The black comedy has shocked those who have streamed it, with many fans claiming it has ‘ruined’ their Christmas.
X user Gemma Amor wrote after watching Silent Night: ‘WHY AM I WATCHING THIS I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE A FUN MURDER MYSTERY OH GOD ITS NOT 🫠’ later adding ‘SERIOUSLY F**K THIS MOVIE 😭.’
Dan Hill responded: ‘I watched this in 2021 shortly after finding out I was going to be a Dad. I was a wreck after watching. A dark, and angry, movie, but not one I will probably revisit.’

Directed by Camille Griffin, Silent Night also stars Annabelle Wallis, Lucy Punch, Sope Dirisu, Kirby, and Rufus Jones.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly back in 2021, Knightley described Silent Night as ‘every parent’s worst nightmare.’
‘When we came to do it when my kid was about five months old, I read it [the script] again like, “This is not funny at all! This is the opposite of funny, what the f**k was I thinking!?”‘ she continued.
‘It speaks to this weird maternal psyche where you’ve got the fluffy love of bringing life into the world, but in doing that you’re made unbelievably aware of the fragility of life and that death is absolutely side-by-side with life…. It’s rarely explored on film.’
Silent Night is available to stream now on Amazon Prime Video.
