Infinity Pool is one of the year’s most talked-about films, with some spectators reporting it made them feel sick and others walking out of theatres.
The film is writer-director Brandon Cronenberg’s third and stars Alexander Skarsgrd and Mia Goth, although nothing was known about the narrative before its release.
Last month, moviegoers were allowed to see the picture, and opinions ranged from ‘it is horrific, bizarre, and beyond f****d up’ to ‘this film is horrible and scary’. Oh, and there’s a moment in which Skarsgrd is nursed by Goth’s character.
It should come as no surprise that the Infinity Pool is not for the faint of heart. So strap in, because we’re going to give you all you need to know about the movie.
First and foremost, when will it be launched in the United Kingdom? Although Infinity Pool was released in theatres across the pond last month, it won’t be available in the United States until March 24.
While its debut on these shores is still a ways off, the film appears to be well worth the wait.
The narrative revolves around a rich couple (Skarsgard’s James and Cleopatra Coleman’s Em Foster) who take a vacation to an isolated island resort.
James, a novelist, is looking for ideas for his second book when he comes across another couple on the island – Goth’s Gabi Bauer and Jalil Lespert’s Alban Bauer.
Gabi and Alban express their admiration for James’ efforts and invite him and Em on a day excursion.
As it turns out, the resort is on a totalitarian island, and guests are not permitted to leave the retreat.

But they do, and James and Em’s vacation is turned upside down when they are detained after an accident, with the former awoken by cops knocking on his door with an arrest order.
James’ misdeeds are punishable by death, but the author is advised that he may avoid execution by paying for a clone of himself to be created and slain in his stead. As expected, pandemonium erupts.
Of the story, Cronenberg told Den of Geek: ‘It started with a short story I was writing, that just essentially was the first execution scene.
‘So it started with the idea of doubling, and a double of yourself being executed and watching that execution.
‘Then when I expanded it, I started to think about some experiences I had a number of years ago that partly informed the setting.’
What about *that* nursing scene? It’s just one of the disturbingly violent scenes in Infinity Pool (the film is filled with body fluids), but Skarsgrd admits it was a first for him.
‘Fighting a nude version of myself to the death and then being nursed by Mia, that’s not something you get to do very frequently as an actor,’ he remarked of his current part, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
To put it simply, we can’t wait to see this flick. March has arrived.
