You’ve probably seen the trailer for M3GAN, a new sci-fi horror film about a scary robot doll. Well, Australian producer James Wan is already planning a sequel.
The 45-year-old filmmaker has only recently released the film in theatres, but he is already indicating that it will become a franchise. That’s great news for light-horror fans, because it’s been getting rave reviews.
James A. Janisse of the Dead Meat YouTube channel termed the character M3GAN ‘an immediate icon’ while film critic Courtney Howard characterised it as ‘bonkers and amazing’.
And it’s insane. M3GAN is a robot who exists to relieve her human sister-loneliness, pal’s but she, er, becomes obsessed. Think My Sister’s Keeper meets Chucky to get a sense of the twisted, comic riot that is this flick.
Speaking to Collider about the potential of another installment of psycho-robot M3GAN, James said: ‘What I will say to that is, whether it’s The Conjuring Universe, or Saw, or Malignant, or M3GAN here, we like to think of a bigger world.

‘For me, it’s about creating the world, and knowing who the characters are, where the story could potentially go, and then building this bigger world, and then going into that and going, “Okay, I’m telling this particular story, but I know other stuff that’s going on.”‘
The Aquaman director added: ‘So if we’re fortunate enough to have sequels, then we have an idea of where we want to go.’
It’s also rated PG. Director Gerard Johnstone recently stated that the film, starring Allison Williams and Violet McGraw, had to be reshot several times in order to meet the 13-year-old age requirement.
He told Total Film it was always ‘close’ to the rating anyway, but he claimed that rethinking some scenes actually enhanced the quality of it. The fans certainly think so.
