Reese Witherspoon has revealed details about the next Legally Blonde 3 film, hinting to Jennifer Coolidge’s comeback to the big screen.
It’s been five years since the Elle Woods legend declared the sequel was in the works, with Mindy Kaling and Brooklyn Nine Nine creator Dan Goor collaborating on the script.
Since then, there has been little information on the project and when we might expect to see our favourite lawyer take on injustice once more.
In a new interview, Reese couldn’t stop praising her co-star, who played her legendary companion Paulette Bonafonte in the previous two films, and assuring that she will appear in the sequel.
‘I’m beyond myself about Jennifer Coolidge,’ she said. ‘She deserves every one of those flowers she is receiving right now. And she’s just one of those people who is so naturally gifted and funny and that you can just tell people love her, because she gets up there and everybody’s like, “I love her”.
‘But she’s just done a lot of good work in our business for so long, that it’s really nice to see her getting this incredible moment.’
Reese pledged that she would be featured when Jennifer stated in October that she had not been asked for a third term as Paulette.
‘There is no Legally Blonde 3 without Jennifer Coolidge,’ she added to Entertainment Tonight.
Mindy previously addressed Jennifer’s involvement in the film, referring to her as “jackpot” casting.
However, when asked about the third instalment last year, the White Lotus legend admitted that she hadn’t heard from anybody in charge.
‘I know nothing, I mean I don’t know if they wanted to surprise me or something, because I hear about it a lot,’ she told the outlet. ‘I heard that Mindy has this amazing version of our next round, but I haven’t seen it. I don’t have the call yet.’
Someone needs to pick up the phone as soon as possible.
Mindy also made waves when she revealed who inspired her to revisit Elle Woods’ narrative, indicating that Reese was the driving reason behind it.
‘I’ve been working with Reese on a few of projects and we’ve been friends for a while, and I’ve always referenced the movies to her,’ she stated on Good Morning America.
‘It’s been over 20 years since she did the first movie and she asked me, “You know, I’d really love to revisit this character.”
‘I was nervous because the movie is so iconic but then I thought it would be really fun to see that character in her 40s. What is Elle Woods dealing with as a 41-year-old woman?
‘I think it’s going to be a great movie for Reese and people are going to love to see her in this part.’
