Two well-known Hollywood figures make surprise appearances in the post-credit scenes of The Flash.
The DC film, projected to hit UK theatres on June 16, features Ezra Miller, a controversial actor, in the title role.
The movie, inspired by the Flashpoint comic book, portrays Barry Allen or The Flash utilizing his lightning-speed capability to reverse time and spare his parents’ lives.
His deeds result in multiple timelines – and duplicates of himself – forcing Barry to solve a significant issue upon his return to his timeline.
Ezra, who had his first red carpet moment after facing various issues in the U.S. earlier this week, is joined by Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck, both reprising their Batman roles.
There’s more to come, but please be aware of significant spoilers below.
The film incorporates a post-credit scene, a trademark of the DC franchise. This particular scene is notable because it marks the return of George Clooney as Bruce Wayne. Indeed.
In a scene lasting one minute, George’s Bruce steps out of Batman’s well-known Mercedes, leaving a baffled Barry Allen asking, ‘Who is this man?’
‘You’re not Batman,’ Barry insists, to which Wayne retorts: ‘What’s wrong with you?’
George has previously admitted his portrayal of Batman was unpopular. He stated in 2021 that he “messed up tremendously.”
He is widely recognized for his 1997 role as the superhero Batman in the movie Batman and Robin, which did not resonate well with fans.
‘I tried my hand at a superhero movie and I messed it up so badly I’m not even allowed on set,’ George confessed to People at The Tender Bar screening.
When asked why he wasn’t involved with The Flash, he remained ambiguous.
Without specifying whether he was even offered to repeat his role, he humorously told Variety: ‘Having ruined a franchise as I did…’
Now it all adds up.
Although George’s unexpected arrival in The Flash was surprising, it wasn’t the only surprise casting, as Nicolas Cage made a cameo as Superman.
A lifelong Superman enthusiast, Cage had participated in Tim Burton’s ill-starred Superman Lives over two decades prior.
During the complete sequence, audiences watched his Superman fight a beast.
This unforeseen event left the audience in disbelief.
‘George Clooney Batman,’ one viewer commented. ‘They truly went the extra mile. Nic Cage Superman. Absolutely stunning.’
‘The CGI Nic Cage Superman cameo is unbelievable,’ intimated another, while a third added: ‘Nic Cage is my favourite unexpected appearance in The Flash but I know the general audience will burst out laughing without understanding the context.’
The Flash is set to hit UK cinemas on Friday, June 16.
