The champion of American Idol season 18 After three years as champion, Just Sam has returned to singing in tube stations.
The musician, who uses they/them pronouns, won the series in 2020, but was crowned by herself in her flat due to the pandemic.
Samantha Diaz, who goes by the stage name Now Sam, recently uploaded a series of videos of themselves busking in New York City tube stations.
In one of the recordings, the celebrity sings Beyonce’s “Listen” and then praises the commuters for listening.
Previously, Just Sam stated that she was ‘totally humiliated’ to be performing on public transport.
‘In 2021 I was totally embarrassed to have to go back to the train. I didn’t want people to know I really needed the money, and I didn’t want people to know it wasn’t optional,’ they explained in a lengthy Instagram post.
‘I was disappointed in myself for dropping so low after winning ‘Idol’, but then I had to take it easy and remember that I started my journey with ‘Idol’ when I was 20 years old. I didn’t even know about Hollywood or the music industry.’
The vocalist won the fourth season of the ABC singing competition after impressing judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan at their Washington, D.C. audition.
Just Sam became the first LGBTQ winner of American Idol, defeating Arthur Gunn in the public vote after the competition moved from Fox to ABC.
Just Sam confessed at the time that they felt ‘blessed’ that the programme did not get suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic and instead continued as a means to’spread love and joy to families watching at home’.
