Sally Nugent and Jon Kay of BBC Breakfast paid tribute to their old colleague Dan Walker following his horrible bike incident.
On Monday, the Channel 5 broadcaster tweeted that he was ‘happy to be alive’ after being hit by a vehicle.
‘Bit of an accident this morning. Glad to be alive after getting hit by a car on my bike,’ the 45-year-old wrote after snapping some selfies in the ambulance.
‘My face is a shambles, but I don’t believe anything is damaged. Thank you to Shaun and Jamie for assisting me, as well as the nice copper on the scene.
After addressing the day’s news on the morning show, Jon and Sally discussed Dan’s injury.
‘On the BBC News website, everyone, here’s a familiar face,’ Sally, 51, added.
‘Dan Walker, our Dan was injured after his collision with a car while he was cycling yesterday.’
She continued: ‘Now, he’s OK, he tweeted photos with the message he’s glad to be alive. Later on he confirmed he’d obviously been checked out and had amazing help from the ambulance service and the NHS and he is now home resting, he’s OK.’
Jon added: ‘It sounds like he was out cold for 20 minutes or so wasn’t he? Get well soon Dan.’
In a recent Instagram Stories post, the former Strictly Come Dancing star revealed that his problems sleeping may be down to the amount of medicine he’d been prescribed.
He wrote: ‘Can’t sleep… too many drugs I think,’ alongside a cry-laughing emoji.
‘Just reading through some of the 1000s of messages today.’
The former BBC broadcaster continued: ‘Thank you so much. It’s so kind of you all. If my eyes weren’t so swollen I might have a little cry. Thank you!’
BBC Breakfast airs weekdays at 6am on BBC One.
