People eager to see Emily Atack‘s debut on Who Do You Think You Are? on Thursday night were disappointed due to Wimbledon.
A suspenseful encounter between Andy Murray, the 2013 and 2016 winner, and Greek fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas ended in a tough fourth set.
The BBC had planned to continue airing the match on BBC Two at 9 p.m. so that an edition of Who Do You Think You Are? starring Emily Atack could be shown.
Those watching on BBC One, however, were informed that the match would continue on the present channel, with Emily’s episode airing on BBC Two instead.
Many people were dismayed by the decision, especially those who had set their televisions to record the programme on BBC One.
Those who intended to catch up later were dismayed to discover that Andy’s match, which continues on Friday, had been taped instead.
One Twitter user expressed their disappointment by saying: ‘Damn. I’m missing Emily Atack on Who Do You Think You Are. Stupid tennis.’
A second person said: ‘Not in the least interested in Wimbledon, even if Murray’s on or not. You could have continued his match on BBC Two.’
They continued: ‘[Don’t] shove Emily Atack’s Who Do You Think You Are there’. Those who were recording it on BBC1 have lost it.’
Despite the abrupt shift in schedules, many people were able to jump over to BBC Two and witness Emily Atack‘s amusing and heartfelt episode.
It featured photos of Emily with Sir Paul McCartney, who is connected to the Inbetweeners star on her mother’s side of the family.
‘[Forget] the tennis, cricket, and anything else on TV. Emily Atack is on BBC Two,’ one user said, who watched on as Emily’s musical heritage was revealed.
However, there were some heartbreaking moments, such as Emily discovering that her great-great grandpa committed himself when he was 33 years old in 1889.
She confessed that after learning about this aspect of her family history, her father’s side of the family had been quite sensitive to it.
