Ben Shephard has made the observation that even while there are occasions when Rishi Sunak “doesn’t seem or seem very human,” there were periods throughout his chat with Piers Morgan when this altered.
At No. 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister had a discussion with a presenter from TalkTV that was billed as a “unmissable” event. The talk took place last night.
The resignation of Liz Truss while she was still serving in office before Sunak took over, what he’s accomplished in the first 100 days of his term, immigration law, and the nurses’ strikes were some of the topics that were discussed.
Morgan, 57, also questioned Sunak, 42, on the manner in which he proposed to his wife, Akshata Murty, 42, who is an heiress and an entrepreneur.
Shephard, the host of Good Morning Britain, admitted that he felt Sunak’s admission made him seem’more human’ than usual after hearing the politician speak about how he asked Murty to marry him at Half Moon Bay in the United States. The couple got married in 2009. Shephard made this admission after hearing the politician speak about how he proposed to Murty at Half Moon Bay.
Jacqui Smith, a former home secretary under the Labour Party, and Lord Vaizey, a former culture minister under the Conservative Party, joined Shephard and Kate Garraway in the ITV studio for the episode that aired on Friday.

During the interview, Lord Vaizey recounted how Sunak’s encounter with Morgan went down, saying, “He asked him how he proposed to his wife, and I’ve never seen a more uncomfortable exchange.” Lord Vaizey was referring to the conversation that took place between Sunak and Morgan.
‘Classic Morgan, “Tell me, how did you propose to your wife.” Rishi Sunak, you can kind of see the thought bubble, “Why did I invite this bloke into my flat to ask me these incredibly annoying questions?”’
After a moment of silence, Shephard spoke up and said, “I believe the sentiment there was that he appeared more human when he talked about it.” There are moments when he doesn’t appear or feel all that human, and the fact that you said that made you feel a little bit more human.
After that, Lord Vaizey continued by saying that Sunak frequently gives off the impression that he is attempting to portray himself as “perfect,” what with the fact that he does not drink and works out on a daily basis.
‘I thought it was good for him when he looked incredibly pained and awkward,’ the political commentator added.
While speaking to Morgan about how he asked his wife to marry him, who he wed in 2009, Sunak said: ‘We got engaged in a place called Half Moon Bay and it was a place that when we were students we met when we were studying together in the States.
‘We used to walk in this area and look up at this nice fancy hotel that we never could stay in, and then I surprised her and we did go and stay there but before that we went for a walk along the cliffs and we were alone and that’s where I proposed.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
