Amanda Holden fought to fight back emotions when a child magician had the judges of Britain’s Got Talent in tears.
Cillian O’Connor, 13, had the BGT panel – Simon Cowell, Bruno Tonioli, Amanda and Alesha Dixon – on their feet during Saturday’s series 16 launch.
The judges were amused by the youngster’s clever remarks, but he put the audience in a trance after turning on a bulb with the click of his fingers.
Cillian later challenged the 63-year-old music entrepreneur to predict how many jelly beans were in the pot.
Simon was surprised to hear that he was accurate after guessing 2,500, but the catch was that Cillian had previously written the figure on a note before his audition.
Cillian’s audition had both the judges and the audience on their feet, and judges Amanda, Alesha, and Bruno were moved by his positive reaction to the standing ovation.
‘Why am I crying? You make us cry,’ said Bruno.
‘You are unbelievably talented,’ Simon added.
‘That absolutely freaked me out when I saw that, there’s something really incredible about you and you’re such an incredible performer.’
A teary Amanda said: ‘You’ve made me and Alesha a mess.
‘You were amazing, I mean absolutely phenomenal. Great showmanship, I’m really glad magic has changed your life and has given you so much confidence, but above all of that you are a little superstar, so well done!’
During tonight’s premiere, Simon had to educate Bruno on BGT rules when he hit his buzzer after rejecting an auditionee.
‘You don’t have to do that as well. You can just say no!’ Simon snapped.
Bruno asked: ‘I don’t have to do that? Oh I’m sorry.’
Clearly stunned by the bold move, Simon felt compelled to ask Bruno: ‘Have you ever watched this show?’
Britain’s Got Talent continues tomorrow at 7:45pm on ITV and ITVX.
