Bryan Cranston has shown his support for a Malcolm in the Middle remake.
Between 2000 until 2006, the sitcom starred Frankie Muniz as the titular kid prodigy, as well as his chaotic lower-middle-class family, which included father Hal (played by Bryan).
There have been rumours about a comeback for some years, and Bryan, 66, has expressed his wish to be part once more.
‘I love that show. To me, it was the comedic flip side to Breaking Bad because of the quality of the writing,’ he said.
‘[The show’s creator] Linwood Boomer is really thinking about it. And, like [Breaking Bad creator] Vince Gilligan, he remarked that if there was a terrific idea that everyone got enthused about, he would seriously consider executing it.’
Bryan also stated that the cast was ‘fully on board’ with the EW interview.
‘All the actors said, “Well, we’d love to see each other again, for those very same reasons”. But I, too, want it to be a good reason. I don’t need a job. I don’t want to just be busy.
‘But I love to work, and I would love to reunite with that cast and that crew, and tell those stories in that character again.
‘To be able to slip into Hal again, at this age, all those years ago, [would be] phenomenal…. I’m thrilled at the prospect of it.’
Bryan publicly indicated desire in a reunion in 2016, while Frankie stated in 2021 that his on-screen father has been working on a film script.
The current talk of a reunion coincided with Bryan’s recent return to the role of another classic character, Walter White.
A decade after the ending of Breaking Bad, Bryan will reprise the role in an upcoming SuperBowl commercial, in which the drug dealer promotes a new product, Popcorners, this weekend.
Watch the Super Bowl on ITV on Sunday, February 12 at 10.45pm. Malcolm in the Middle is available to watch on Disney Plus.
