Coleen Nolan has admitted she ‘feels slightly sorry’ for Liz Truss amid calls for the Prime Minister to step down just weeks into her premiership.
The Loose Women star has weighed in as a number of Tory MPs have called for her to go after new chancellor Jeremy Hunt tore up almost all of her tax measures announced in the disastrous mini-budget which saw his predecessor Kwasi Kwarteng sacked after just 38 days.
Speaking on Monday’s episode of the daytime show, Coleen said: ‘I just can’t imagine that that woman’s going through right now. She’s definitely not sleeping, that’s for sure.
‘I feel slightly sorry for her in the respect that it seems she’s been on the losing end of things since the time she came in. She’s taking over a country that’s completely, at the moment, in a state.
‘I don’t think anybody could have done anything different, I don’t think she’s had support from anybody. And there’s also a part of me thinks, would she get more support from her party if she was male?’
And when some of the live studio audience could be heard cheering at the idea of previous Prime Minister Boris Johnson returning to power, she looked stunned.

She shouted: ‘You want Boris back?! Get out! Who let this lot in?’
Her comments about Truss came after her fellow panellists Jane Moore and Janet Street Porter gave their own scathing assessments of the Prime Minister’s current position.
‘Well I think if she cares about the country, she needs to go. She needs to just stand down. She’s a busted flush, really,’ Jane said, before quipping ‘busted Truss’.
‘She’s got rid of the chancellor, who basically just implemented what she told him to do. And everybody knows that, so it just looks a bit silly really that she’s hanging on. Why wait another two, three weeks for what is the inevitable?’
Janet agreed and insisted her support within the Tory party will be declining, while she claimed the Prime Minister has surrounded herself with ‘yes people’.
‘Considering she only ever had the support of a third of Tory MPs in the first place, I think if she even had one 10th of that third now, she’d be lucky,’ she said, after being asked if Truss could turn things round.
‘The other thing is, she appointed a cabinet of her supporters, so she’s surrounded by yes people, which is not great. As far as I’m concerned, we’ve had four chancellors in as many months – my lettuces have lasted longer.’
Loose Women airs weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV.
