The opening episode of Great Pottery Throw Down season 6 was emotional, with judge Keith Brymer Jones in tears after binning a contestant’s milk jugs.
The popular Channel 4 competition show, hosted by Siobhan McSweeney, resumed on Sunday night with 12 new contestants vying for the title of Potter of the Year.
Keith and fellow judge Rich Miller got things started by assigning the group the task of creating birthday tea sets and handleless milk jugs, but 36-year-old architect Christophe struggled with the clay and was dissatisfied with his efforts.
‘I don’t think I’ve ever thrown something that bad,’ Christophe giggled, as Keith went to thump his creation with his fist before throwing it in the bin.
‘I think we’ll get rid of that one,’ he remarked, before smashing another piece and adding: ‘This is pants!’

‘I did just try my best,’ Christophe admitted.
Keith opted to save Christophe’s remaining two milk jugs, despite his reservations.
‘Although those aren’t the same, I am reluctant to throw those two away because not being funny, but I know what it’s…,’ Keith said, before choking up.
The judge was filled with emotion and had tears in his eyes at this time.

‘I know what it’s like, you know,’ he eventually continued. ‘We’re asking you to do this thing under pressure, so that’s a tall order.’
‘Yes, it’s completely new for me,’ Christophe said.
‘Well done,’ Keith replied. ‘Well done, Christophe because at least you give it a go.’
Fans of the Great Pottery Throw Down flocked to social media to share their thoughts on the event.
‘Yes, it may just be a pot, but Keith crying on #potterythrowdown is such a positive thing for men everywhere,’ one said. ‘He sets me off every time and I am so thankful for that.’
‘I love how Keith crying makes me cry,’ another penned.
Yep, somebody please pass us the tissues.
Great Pottery Throw Down continues on Sunday at 7.45pm on Channel 4.
