Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield’s relationship looks to be finished, with sources stating that Holly has severed connections with her This Morning co-host.
It’s been a rollercoaster week for the hosts of the popular ITV daytime programme, with insiders reporting that the duo no longer interact behind the scenes and that their friendship has ‘cooled’.
However, a source close to Holly has said that she has opted to go it alone, therefore terminating her on-screen friendship with Phil after 15 years.
According to sources, the mum-of-three will likely present This Morning alongside her friend Alison Hammond or on her own, but no official announcement has been made.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, a source said: ‘Don’t be surprised if you never see them together again, apart from on camera.
‘This has all been so heartbreaking for Holly, but she knows she has to stand on her own two feet and cut the strings.’
They added: ‘Nobody ever thought it would end like this. They were part of one another’s families, and they spent a lot of their weekends socialising. She has tried so hard.’
On Thursday, Phil sought to dismiss allegations of a conflict by lavishing love on Holly and referring to her as his “rock.”
Speaking to The Sun, he said: ‘As I have said before, Holly is my rock. We’re the best of friends – as always, she is an incredible support on screen, behind the scenes and on the phone.
‘Holly has always been there for me, through thick and thin. And I’ve been there for her.
‘The last few weeks haven’t been easy for either of us.’
Insiders later claimed that Phil’s statement had ‘blindsided’ Holly, who was unaware he was going to speak about their connection.
This Morning executives are also said to be in crisis discussions over Phil’s future on the show due to worries about his falling popularity with viewers.
The ITV programme has yet to clarify whether the couple will lead Monday’s episode together, but a decision is anticipated soon.
Holly and Phil have co-hosted This Morning for 14 years.
They originally appeared on the famous show together in 2009 and have since gone on to become one of the most popular duos on British television.
This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
