Heartstopper creator Alice Oseman has revealed news about the show’s highly anticipated second season.
The first installment of the Netflix sensation follows Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick (Kit Connor), two young LGBTQ+ schoolboys who fall in love while overcoming shame, fear, and bullying to live boldly as their genuine selves.
In the programme, Yasmin Finney portrays Elle, a trans student who recently relocated from the boys’ school to the girls’ school, and William Gao plays Tao, Charlie’s protective and jealous best friend.
Meanwhile, Isaac (Tobie Donovan) is a member of the gang and the third member of Charlie and Tao’s trio in the smash movie.
And it appears that viewers will see more of Isaac in season 2, with Alice adding that the character’s asexuality will be explored.
The screenwriter told Attitude Magazine: ‘Netflix will hate me for spilling, but yes, asexuality will be discussed on TV in a big way. I’m excited. I hope it’ll change the world.’
‘I hope when it happens in Heartstopper it doesn’t feel like a lesson. You know Isaac, you care about him, and now you’re going to learn something new about him.’
It comes after it was revealed that season 2 filming wrapped in December, implying that we won’t have to wait long for it to return to our screens.
Alice described the process of developing Series 2 as ‘very intensive’ while sharing images with Kit, 18, and Joe, 19.

‘That’s a wrap on Heartstopper season 2!’, Alice began in their caption. ‘It’s been an incredibly intense few months on set with many new challenges for the cast and crew, but everyone rose to those challenges with such passion and skill and determination.’
Alice continued with gratitude: ‘Huge thanks to every single member of the cast and crew – everyone has worked ridiculously hard and given it their all, and for that I am eternally grateful.’
She concluded: ‘This season is going to be so magical and I can’t wait to get started on post-production! 🍂🌈’.
Heartstopper is available to stream on Netflix.
