The Late Late Show with James Corden will conclude with a primetime special in April, reuniting the host with Tom Cruise.
After his announcement last year that he would be leaving the programme, which he has hosted since 2015, arrangements for his finale have finally been finalised.
CBS will play the last hour of the series on Thursday, April 27 at 12.37am ET/PT, as well as a primetime special earlier in the evening, at 10pm.
With Tom Cruise on board, the pair will do one final comedy together, but it will be different from their normal shenanigans.
While Tom, 60, has previously appeared on the programme and delightfully subjected James, 44, to stomach-churning exploits such as piloting fighter planes and skydiving, things will be much more low-key this time.
Instead of flying, they will take to the stage for an epic musical production of The Lion King at Hollywood’s Pantages Theater.
CBS, which transmits the show in the United States, said further details about the special, as well as the guests who would appear over the following two months, would be released in the coming weeks.
Tom last appeared on the show in May 2022, only a few weeks after James announced his departure.
Tom, not missing an opportunity, mocked James and joked that he had been fired, expressing false compassion and offering to assist him out with money if necessary.
The Late Late Show’s fourth incarnation debuted in 1995 and has previously been hosted by Tom Snyder, Craig Kilborn, and Craig Ferguson.
Nevertheless, James’ departure signals the end of the long-running chat programme, which seems to be replaced with a remake of the comic game show @midnight.
CBS President and CEO George Cheeks told Deadline last year that when The Gavin and Stacey star retires, the network plans to experiment and freshen up the concept.
As James signs off for the last time, NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers will be the sole talk show in that time period.
Previously, when discussing his intention to leave the programme, James stated that he wanted to spend more time with his family and establish roots in London.
He told Drew Barrymore on her talk show that leaving was not ‘comfortable in any way,’ but he ‘never imagined it to be the last destination’.
The Late Late Show with James Corden airs on CBS in the US.
