Sir Brian May’s statement that badgers are not “lovely creatures” was debunked by Jeremy Clarkson, who said that the public shouldn’t be “fooled” by May’s assertions.
In the upcoming second season of his Amazon Prime series, the Grand Tour frontman will be joined by his sidekick Kaleb Cooper on his “Diddly Squat” farm.
But before the second season premieres next month, the 62-year-old talked about the challenges he had when dealing with badgers.
‘That was one of the most difficult areas to cover because the badger is much-loved by most people in the country,’ he said.
‘In fact, the only people who absolutely hate badgers are farmers and
people who work in the countryside. We thought, “what do we do?” because if you want to make a popular show you have to say “oh, look at the little cuddly-wuddly badgers.’
He continued: ‘But I thought: no, it’s a farming show, and you’d lose your core audience, the farmers, if you went around, saying, “look at these sweet little animals.”’
Sir Brian addressed badger culling and the import of fur in Parliament last year. Aside from calling the culls “hideous and useless,” the artist also advocated for more regulations on blood sports like fox hunting.
Jeremy mentioned that the Queen guitarist once referred to badgers as “b*****ds” in reference to the guitarist’s former position.
‘These are not nice animals. Do not be fooled by Brian May. This is what badgers do,’ he said.
Despite the fact that a third season of Clarkson’s Farm has already been announced, the host has apparently been fired by Amazon for making racist and sexist remarks about Meghan Markle in a piece.
Variety reports that when the commissioned seasons of The Grand Tour and Clarkson’s Farm are over, the streaming service will no longer be collaborating with the TV star.
Clarkson’s Farm season 2 is airing from February 10 on Prime Video.
