Johnny Knoxville said it was with a “sad heart” that he had to reveal that his highly regarded comedy Reboot will be cancelled after only one season.
The comedy, which premiered in September of last year, followed the dysfunctional cast of the early 2000s hit sitcom Step Right Up as they dealt with their unresolved issues and learned to adapt to a new media and entertainment landscape brought on by the success of a young writer’s pitch to reboot the show.
It was created by Steve Levitan, who previously worked on Modern Family, and stars Keegan-Michael Key, Rachel Bloom, Judy Grier, and Paul Reiser.
Even though it was well-received by reviewers and audiences alike and was nominated for two Critics’ Choice Awards, it ultimately failed to win either.
Johnny posted the news on his social media accounts and called the verdict “unbelievable.”
Despite positive feedback and a nomination for a critics’ choice award, he lamented on Instagram that Hulu had passed on renewing Reboot for a second season despite the show’s potential success.

‘Pretty unbelievable. Working on this show has been one of the great highlights of my life, and I wanted to thank Steve Levitan and the entire stellar cast for allowing me to be part of this show.
‘It’s not over yet though, as we tend to shop it around and hopefully it will find a home with a studio who believes in and knows how to properly support a new show as it continues to grow.’
Several passionate people responded to his article, including John Stamos and other show fans who were upset by the cancellation.
‘Sucks. Sorry man. Was a good show,’ John wrote.
Entertainment journalist Maria Menounos added: ‘What?!!!!!!!!! Where do I start the protest. Hubby and I are OBSESSED!!!!!!!’
Another fan wrote that it was ‘infuriating’.
Mike has previously described the show as a “love letter to sitcoms.”
He said that despite the expectations placed on him after Modern Family, he ‘wanted to keep working’ and used those expectations to “motivate me to not settle.”
Reboot is streaming on Disney Plus.
