Rita Wilson revealed behind-the-scenes footage from her current film, A Man Named Otto, and said she avoided the set during her actor son’s kissing moment.
The 66-year-old wife of Tom Hanks, also 66, produced the picture, which also stars her husband and her son Truman, 26.
She spoke up about her job experience with her family and pondered on a ‘awkward’ situation she wished to avoid with her children.
Rita appeared on the BBC’s The One Show, where she spoke with hosts Lauren Laverne and Jermaine Jenas about directing the film, which was based on a novel by Fredrik Backman.
‘That was very fun, it was amazing, and I enjoy producing movies, and I believe actors have a tremendous perspective on material in some ways because we are accustomed to being around so many different aspects when you’re creating a picture,’ added the star.
‘I produced My Big Fat Greek Wedding, executive produced the Mamma Mia films, and then I discovered this lovely novel A Man Called Ove, which we then acquired the rights to and turned into the film A Man Called Otto.’

She continued on to explain what it was like to work with her son: ‘It was very funny because he did a shoot one day and I made myself graciously not appear on set that day because his first scene was he had to kiss someone.
‘That would have been really bad if I had to be like, “can you do it again?”. It would be so awkward!’
With the loss of his wife, Otto has given up on life and views the world in a dismal manner.
Things change for the main character when a young family moves in next door and he makes a new buddy in his new neighbour.
Later in the conversation, the renowned face confessed she went to school in London many years ago when reflecting on her performance at one of The Royal Variety Performances.
‘I went to Lamda, which was on the Cromwell and Earl’s Court roads, and I’d go into Hyde Park and by the Royal Albert Hall, and I could never afford to go there, much alone contemplate performing there.
‘So performing there was a dream come true.’
The One Show airs weekdays at 7pm on BBC One.
