Ruth Langsford sobbed on Tuesday’s Loose Women when discussing pet death and anticipating the terrible end to her beloved pup’s life.
Ruth, 63, and her husband Eamonn Holmes have a rescue dog named Maggie, who means a lot to them.
Ruth fell into tears when discussing pet owners’ grief at the death of their dogs, prompting Coleen Nolan, Frankie Bridge, and Janet Street-Porter to console her.
Watching a scene from Coronation Street, she began: ‘My little Maggie, is probably about 13, anyway, look at her there…’
Ruth was unable to continue, so Coleen took over as she brushed away her tears.
A moment later, she continued: ‘You know that hopefully, in the grand scheme of things, you know that pet is going to go before you.
‘And that’s heartbreaking, so I think that’s why that storyline, and looking at Maggie, she’s a bit grey now, she’s 13ish because she’s a rescue dog.’
‘That is going to happen,’ Ruth continued, before beginning to sob again.
Linda Robson, another Loose Women star, has previously stated that she keeps her dogs’ and relatives’ ashes in her knicker drawer, along with ‘anything that’s valuable’ to her.
The Birds of a Feather actress admitted: ‘I’ve got lots of people and animals’ ashes in my knicker drawer.’
‘I’ve got little bags of ashes from George and from Ernie [her late dogs] and from other members of the family,’ she continued.
‘They’re in little packets,’ Linda added, saying the packets are named with labels to stop her getting ‘the ashes mixed up.’
Next to the ashes, Linda keeps precious items from her children: ‘The little bracelets when they’re born, the first lock of their hair, their teeth…’
Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
