SAS: Who Dares Wins will return to our screens tonight with a new episode titled Jungle Hell.
This new season is supposed to be tougher than ever, and takes place in North Vietnam’s Thung Ui, branded as “the deepest, darkest, most merciless jungle in the world”.
Over the course of six episodes, 20 men and women will compete in a demanding SAS selection procedure, with participants gradually being eliminated.
Apart from the change in setting, this season may appear extremely different without Ant Middleton at the helm – but why did he leave?
Everything you need to know is right here.
Where is Ant Middleton?

Ant, who had fronted SAS: Who Dares Wins since 2015, was removed from the Channel 4 show in 2021 owing to ‘personal behaviour’.
The announcement followed some contentious remarks on the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and Covid-19.
His military experience spans more than a decade, beginning with his tenure in the Royal Marines and 9 Parachute Squadron Engineers.
He joined the Special Boat Service (SBS), the SAS’s sister force, in 2008 and spent four years as a point man, primary weapons operator, and sniper.
Ant has also used his Special Forces training to work in personal security, guarding VIPs like government officials and celebrities.
As far-right protestors battled with demonstrators in London, Ant labelled both groups’scum’ in a since-deleted tweet on the Black Lives Matter movement protesting police brutality.
He said: ‘The extreme left against the extreme right. When did two wrongs make a right. It was only a matter of time. BLM and EDL are not welcome on our streets, absolute scum.
‘What a great example you are to your future generation. Bravo.’

He did, however, eventually apologise in a video, saying that he is not a racist in the face of widespread condemnation.
‘Within that tweet, I mentioned the BLM, the EDL, and the phrase “scum,”‘ Ant explained. I never called the BLM scum or compared the two organisations. I want to be really clear about this.
‘The term filth was used to characterise the people in the film who were violent, terrorising London’s streets, and setting a horrible example for our future generations.’
‘Ant Middleton will not be appearing in future series of SAS: Who Dares Wins,’ Channel 4 announced in a statement at the time.
‘Following a number of discussions Channel 4 and Minnow Films have had with him in relation to his personal conduct it has become clear that our views and values are not aligned and we will not be working with him again.’
Several people have also complained about his ‘inappropriate statements’ to female crew members on set, which he rejected as ‘indirect and just military banter’.
Ant has slammed Channel 4 after his firing, calling the company ‘hypocritical and disgraceful’ for profiting from his departure.
Who is his replacement?
Show veteran Mark ‘Billy’ Billingham will serve as the series’ chief instructor, as he is uniquely equipped for jungle training..

Billy served in the military for 27 years, rising to the highest NCO rank in the SAS as Sergeant Major. He began his career in the jungle in Belize in 1984 and finished in the jungle in Brunei in 2008.
“Having been a DS on true military SAS selection and Chief Instructor at the British Army Jungle Warfare Training School in Brunei, there is nobody better qualified than myself to take the recruits through this perilous environment,” he stated of the upcoming season.
“I’m looking forward to challenging and encouraging the new recruits. However, I will not be accepting any excuses – this will be the toughest course to date!”
Billy will be joined by Rudy Reyes, who served as the series’ chief instructor last year but will step down this year, Jason Foxy Fox, and new recruit Chris Oliver, a 40-year-old former Special Forces operator and Royal Marines mountain leader who served in the special boat service.
What is Ant Middleton doing now?
Despite being dropped from the UK version, Ant is currently the principal instructor for Channel 7’s Australian edition.
Ant gave model Nadia Bartel, comedian Pauly Fenech, TV presenter Riana Crehan, actor Sam Frost, and Bachelor star Locky Gilbert the warmest welcome…. literally.
During the first episode of the season, Ant casually addressed the rest of the gang by warning them they were going to be set on fire.
He later doused Locky in fuel from head to toe before lighting a match on his uniform, causing aggressive flames to spread across his back.
It didn’t stop there. The recruits were later instructed that they would have to strip naked on the spot if they wanted to change into dry clothes.
When asked what the most difficult aspect of the gruelling series was, Ant said that with each new season, it’s vital to push the celebs further out of their comfort zone.
‘With each season, we get really creative in focusing and exacerbating common and collective fears,’ he said.
‘We design tasks to force people to overcome these fears and to manage their emotions in extreme circumstances.’
