Stranger Things’ final season is on hold due to the Hollywood writers’ strike.
Thousands of TV and film writers in the Writers Guild of America (WGA) are currently on strike after major studios failed to give a sufficient compensation package.
The WGA writers’ strike is the biggest in over 15 years, with picket lines stretching throughout California and New York, yelling outside studios and waving posters with catchy slogans.
The strike has also resulted in the cancellation of other shows, including The Talk, Saturday Night Live, and late-night shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert.
Following fan worries that Stranger Things may be delayed, the show’s creators have acknowledged that production is ‘not doable’ right now.
Matt and Ross Duffer, dubbed the Duffer Brothers, described the issue on Twitter.
Duffers here. Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then — over and out. #wgastrong

‘Duffers here,’ they began.
‘Writing does not stop when filming begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, it is not possible during this strike.’
They continued: ‘We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work.
‘Until then — over and out.’
The pair signed off with the hashtag ‘WGA Strong’.
They received a wealth of support from fans of the show, as one account replied: ‘i stand with you!! writers deserve fair treatment, fair pay, and not to be outsourced by AI. i can wait for the final season, because without you, there wouldn’t even be one. and i know you’re gonna put your hearts and soul into it, regardless. THANK you for everything you do!’
‘We stand with you for as long as it takes’, another promised.
‘I stand with the writers!!! i can wait any amount of time if it means the writers are properly compensated for the work they do!’, another replied.
One person tweeted: ‘for the people complaining about stranger things s5 shoots being delayed bc strike solidarity- without writers on site steve harrington would have been dead in s1. give the writers all the time they need goddamnit.’
Reports of Stranger Things being affected by the writers’ strike were first mentioned in The Los Angeles Times on Wednesday evening.
While viewers of the sci-fi programme, which debuted in 2016, were disappointed, others pointed out that disrupting their beloved show was the whole idea of the strike.
Season 5 will be Stranger Things’ final season, according to the show’s official website.
We’re kept guessing about plots and how it’ll all end, but Grace Van Dien has revealed that a significant character will be killed off in the last installment.
During a fan conference in Holland, the actress hinted that’someone significant’ would die when the show returns.
‘I heard someone important is gonna die,’ she said in response to a question asking if she’d watch season 5 after her character was killed off.
‘Spoilers?’ she continued, reacting to the crowd’s shock after dropping the bombshell.
‘That’s public,’ she added.
So, who do we believe will fail? Is this Millie Bobby Brown’s Eleven? Or how about Noah Schnapp’s Will Byers?
As the WGA strike continues, it’s unclear how long we’ll have to wait to find out…
Seasons 1-4 of Stranger Things are available to stream on Netflix.
