Susanna Reid has blocked trolls who have made disparaging remarks regarding Madonna’s appearance at the Grammy Awards in 2023.
The Vogue hitmaker, 64, had introduced Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ Unholy performance at the glamorous event, but all eyes were on her.
Celebrities such as Lorraine Kelly and Piers Morgan criticised the pop icon’s outfit, with the latter slammed for comparing the La Isla Bonita chart-topper to a Halloween costume.
Madonna responded to the unkind remarks on Instagram, writing that she had been “caught in the spotlight of ageism and misogyny,” adding that the world “refuses to honour” women above the age of 45.
Susanna Reid, 52, and Ed Balls, 55, discussed the harsh bullying on Wednesday’s Good Morning Britain, with the former BBC Breakfast anchor defending the Like a Virgin singer.
‘She’s 64 years old, and I believe she’s damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t because people would still be fascinated and obsessed with her beauty if she aged naturally,’ Susanna remarked.
‘People are going to be obsessed with how Madonna appears and she thinks it is an example of misogyny, ageism and she also blames the long lens of the camera which took her photo.
‘Frankly, do you know what? I think she should just look however she wants to look and there we go and there you have it.
The broadcaster added: ‘She should feel proud of herself whatever she does.’

It repeated Madonna’s previous statement in response to the trolls, in which she stated that people were more interested in her images than her performances at the Grammys.
Madonna said: ‘Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in.
‘A world that refuses to celebrate women past the age of 45 and feels the need to punish her If she continues to be strong-willed, hard-working and adventurous.
‘I have never apologized for any of the creative choices I have made nor the way that I look or dress and I’m not going to start.
‘I have been degraded by the media since the beginning of my career but I understand that this is all a test and I am happy to do the trailblazing so that all the women behind me can have an easier time in the years to come.’
The Hung Up singer quoted a lyric from the Beyonce hit Break My Soul, adding: ‘You won’t break my soul.’
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
