Sarah Michelle Gellar has said that fans don’t need to continually telling her that Buffy the Vampire Slayer ended twenty years ago; while she “loves” the enthusiasm for the show, she is also aware of the passage of time.
The actor portrayed series protagonist Buffy Summers from 1997 until 2003, and then reprised the role in the spin-off series Angel.
Sarah has continued to be a fan favourite Hollywood celebrity and spoke about her ongoing relationships with devoted fans on tonight’s Graham Norton Show.
“People love to remind me that it is 20 years,” the 45-year-old said after being invited onto the BBC show alongside Claire Foy, M. Night Shyamalan, Rob Beckett, and Sam Smith.
She continued: ‘I love that people still reference it, but I don’t need the actual date and passage of time so people realise how old I am!’
The Scooby-Doo star also discussed her role as an executive producer on her new spooky TV series, Wolf Pack, and the significance of protecting young performers on set.
‘It is important to me to be able to protect the material and, more than that, I can protect the cast,’ she said.
“I made my way up in Hollywood during a rough patch for young performers. Even if it’s not ideal, I believe I’ve contributed to making the workplace more secure.
At the launch of her new TV programme Wolf Pack in Los Angeles the other day, she reunited with Angel actor James Marsters, who made his name as Spike on the original Buffy.
Sarah co-stars in Wolf Pack with Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson, and Tyler Lawrence Gray, as well as Rodrigo Santoro (Love Actually).
Shed been hesitant to sign on for another teen TV drama, and she stated as much.
However, the script caught her attention, and she decided to read it.
‘I had no intention of reading it, but then we got deeper in the conversation around mental health, which is very timely. The werewolves are a metaphor for teenage anxiety,’ she stated.
The Graham Norton Show airs tonight at 10.40pm on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
