In a Channel 4 programme tonight (February 16), Dame Prue Leith and her son, Conservative MP Danny Kruger, will investigate the legalisation of euthanasia.
The Great British Bake Off presenter supports assisted suicide, while her son, Devizes MP, opposes it.
Leith previously disclosed that her ex-husband and her son’s father sought ‘help’ with dying following a protracted illness.
People may be left wondering about the South African restaurateur’s family life after seeing the documentary – does she now have a husband? In addition, how many children does she have?
Let’s find out.
Who is Prue Leith’s husband?
Leith has been married to retired textile designer John Playfair since 2016, after first meeting him in 2011.
The couple tied the knot in Scotland when she was 76 and he was 70.
Discussing their romance on The Jonathan Ross Show in 2021, Leith said: ‘What people don’t realise, especially young people, it actually feels exactly the same at 70, 80 or 60 when you lust after someone as you do when you’re 20.
‘In my generation, girls would look at their telephones and long for it to ring… and nowadays, when I met John, I was thinking, do I dare text him… is that pushy, or not funny, why would he answer.
‘All this rubbish goes through your head. You behave like a teenager. It’s just wonderful.’
Was Prue Leith married before?
From 1974 until his death in December 2002, Leith was married to South African novelist Rayne Kruger for 28 years.
Kruger had emphysema, which had led to a lung infection.
Leith had met Rayne when he was still married to Nan Munro, Leith’s mother’s best friend, with whom she’d been staying.
How many children does Prue Leith have?

Leith is the mother of two children, both of whom she shares with her ex-husband Rayne Kruger.
Danny, a Tory MP born in 1974, and Li-Da, who Prue and Rayne adopted from war-torn Cambodia when she was 16 months old a year later.
Li-Da followed in her mother’s footsteps and adopted a kid when cancer rendered her infertile.
A 2020 documentary follows Leith and her daughter on their voyage to Cambodia to learn more about Li-Da’s ancestors.
Prue & Danny’s Death Road Trip airs on Channel 4 tonight at 9pm.
