The official Barbie movie trailer has arrived, and our levels of enthusiasm have just skyrocketed.
The Greta Gertwig endeavour starring Margot Robbie as the mannequin and Ryan Gosling as Ken is one of the most anticipated films of 2023.
We were previously kept in the dark about the narrative, but we now know how the drama will unfurl.
In the movie’s official trailer, Barbie and Ken depart their pink paradise (well, Barbie leaves, Ken follows along) to experience life ‘in the real world’.
Barbie initially experiences strange occurrences, as she begins to have bizarre notions about dying, falling off her roof, and, to everyone’s astonishment, discovering that her feet are flat!
The realisation that her heels now contact the ground caused her fellow Barbies to shriek in revulsion, making it the most terrifying of the three.

Barbie seeks advice from Kate McKinnon’s character, who sends her on a voyage to “discover the truth about the universe.”
So, Barbie reluctantly gets in her pink vehicle and drives away from Barbieland, and she quickly begins to feel out of place.
She observes that passersby are gazing at her while rollerskating with Ken (yes, in those magnificent neon costumes), with one man even rushing up to smack her behind.
In a truly iconic retaliation, however, Barbie punches him right in the face – go Barbie!

Unfortunately, she winds up being detained, although her mug photo was stunning.
Will Ferrel’s corporate character and his team embark on a mission to return Barbie to her plastic world as her existence in the real world begins to unravel.
‘If this got out, this could mean extremely weird things for our world,’ he says.
‘This would be catastrophic!’
‘No one rests until this doll is back in a box,’ he says defiantly.

Barbie is involved in high-speed vehicle chases as the powers that be attempt to capture and send her home, and she’s shunned by schoolgirls when she tries to make friends because they’re too old to play with dolls.
A kind woman reminds her, ‘Humans only have one ending, but ideas live forever.’
And as if all of that weren’t enough – the sequins, the glitter, the magnificent sets, the spectacular costumes, the hair, the makeup, EVERYTHING – the trailer also provides a sneak peek of the film’s score.

The songs, which feature Dua Lipa — who also appears as a Mermaid Barbie — Lizzo, Haim, Nicki Minaj, Ava Max, and even Mr. Ryan Gosling himself, sound like authentic summer bangers, providing a playlist for the Barbies’ dance parties.
Meanwhile, the evocative film’s taglines guarantee that everyone will be entertained, and we cannot wait.
‘If you love Barbie, this movie is for you,’ it teases.
‘If you hate Barbie, this movie is for you,’ it adds.
Honestly, we are running out of adjectives to convey how excited we are to make this film our life’s work.
Barbie is in cinemas on July 21.
