With the release of the official trailer for Luther: The Fallen Sun, Idris Elba goes on an action-packed mission.
DCI John Luther has returned, and the determined yet obsessive investigator has a new adversary in tech magnate David Robey (Andy Serkis).
The spin-off, titled Luther: The Fallen Sun, will be a ‘epic continuation’ of the TV show, following a ‘gruesome serial murderer’ who is ‘terrorising London as brilliant but disgraced detective John Luther (Idris Elba) sits behind bars’.
The blurb continues: ‘Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.’
The two-minute trailer shows Cynthia Erivo, who portrays Odette Raine, a rival investigator and Luther’s enemy.
‘We need to know where he is,’ she adds in the beginning.

The camera then cuts to an angry Luther storming out of prison!
As the teaser proceeds, Serkis’ wicked figure shows to be a formidable opponent for Luther’s brains, tracking him on CCTV cameras and smirking maniacally.
‘Johnny, I looked you right in the eye because I was curious. I wanted to know if you’d see it in me,’ Robey tells Luther in a threatening voicemail.
‘Because that is who you are, isn’t it? A man who knows all about people like me.’

Numerous fans have voiced their enthusiasm over Luther’s comeback and are counting down the days till its release.
‘Let’s f**king go! A ‘Luther’ film should’ve happened years ago. I know each episode of the show was basically the length of a film, but a legit full length feature was long overdue,’ one person enthused.
While someone else chimed in: ‘Well this has made my day. And my week.’
Speaking about the Luther film years after the series aired on BBC One for the last time, Idris stated last September that he and the other individuals who worked on it are’really proud’ of it.
Luther: The Fallen Sun will be available in select cinemas from February 24 and on Netflix from March 10.
