This May, Lego will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi with a new X-wing model and two new dioramas.
The original Star Wars trilogy came to a close on May 25, 1983, and since it will be 40 years old this year, many celebrations are planned, including one from Lego.
Aiming particularly at adults who saw the movie the first time, two new diorama sets will be released. The speeder bike chase and the confrontation with Emperor Palpatine at the end of the film are two significant scenes that they replicate.
A new Ultimate Collector Series X-wing, a reproduction of the most well-known starfighter of the Rebel Alliance that was featured in all three of the original movies, is added on top of it.
The Emperor, Darth Vader, and Luke Skywalker minifigures are included in the 807-piece diorama known as the Emperor’s Throne Room. The window where the Emperor observes the Battle of Endor and the Emperor’s chair are both faithfully recreated.
In addition to two speeder bikes and minifigures of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and a biker scout, the Endor Speeder Chase set features 608 parts. There are also two enormous trees from Endor’s forest moon. (in reality they were redwoods from California).
A display plaque with a movie quote and a unique 40th anniversary image are also included in the dioramas. Endor Speeder Chase (set #75353) costs £69.99, while Emperor’s Throne Room (set #75352) costs £89.99. On May 1, both sets will be made available in Lego retail locations and online.
Three days later, on May 4, the new X-wing will be released. May 4 is a significant day for Star Wars fans since many businesses run special May the 4th be With You promotions then, including Lego. It’s worth keeping an eye out for what they’ll do this year.
Although, if you’re a Lego VIP member—you can sign up for one —you can obtain the X-wing set on May 1 as well.
The cars in The Ultimate Collector Series are substantially larger size, have more complex designs, and are intended more for adult collectors rather than minifigures.
The X-wing has existed in many forms before, but this is the most detailed rendition to date. It is more than 55cm (12.5″) long and is composed of 1,949 parts. Along with Luke Skywalker and R2-D2 minifigures, it also has wings that open and close.
The Lego website already has the USC X-wing for £209.99.
The 2023 Star Wars Celebration will include the new sets from Friday, April 7 through Sunday, April 10, in London.
Additionally, if you go, you may purchase the BrickHeadz Battle of Endor set before it becomes available elsewhere. It has Lego versions of Luke Skywalker, R2-D2, Lando Calrissian, an Ewok, and Princess Leia as they appeared in Return of the Jedi as BrickHeadz figures (like Funko Pop! but built of Lego).
If you miss out on it during Star Wars Celebration, you’ll have to wait until it goes on sale on May 1 for £39.99.
