Michael Douglas has pondered on his involvement in the next film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, as well as his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as he enjoys being in a picture aimed at a younger audience.
Some of the 78-year-old actor’s most well-known parts include Fatal Attraction, Basic Instinct, and Wall Street, all of which had a R classification when they were released in the United States, requiring under-17s to be accompanied by an adult.
In the UK, they were typically awarded an 18 rating, whilst Wall Street received a 15.
However, the MCU is bringing younger fans into Douglas’ orbit thanks to his role as Dr Hank Pym, an experience which he considers ‘a delight’.
Speaking at the Antman and the Wasp: Quantumania press conference on what he thought was particularly special about the films, he said: ‘I think the Ant-Man pictures refer to family a lot and it brings a vulnerability to these super-powered characters that we see in a lot of Marvel films. And the sense of humour – it’s really a pleasure.’
He added: ‘I think it’s the sort of fun element about it, certainly it’s the danger [too]. It seems to relate to all different ages.

‘[For] someone like me, who is typically associated with R-rated films, it’s been a delight to see smaller kids come up and appreciate it and see what’s going on, so congrats to everyone.’
In the next picture, Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and his family, including daughter Cassie (Kathryn Newton), partner Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly), and her parents, Hank and Janet, are pulled into the Quantum Realm (Michelle Pfeiffer).
When it comes to the action of a superhero film, Douglas and Pfeiffer have enough to get their teeth into, with Pfeiffer saying she wishes she’d had more time to prepare for the more physically taxing scenes.

‘It’s a lot of fun, I like doing that sort of thing. I like that Janet is kind of a bad ass,’ she revealed at the press conference.
However, Douglas admits to taking a more relaxed approach ahead of filming, joking: ‘My preparation was, “Look Ma, I’m in a Marvel film!”’
He was full of praise for his female co-stars though, including the ‘incredible’ Pfeiffer.
‘I enjoyed that opportunity to watch [Michelle] and Evangeline in action and could not be more blessed to have two women action heroes supporting the old man better than anything!’
Ant-Man And the Wasp: Quantumania is set for release on February 17, 2023.
