Everyone has an opinion on what the best Tom Hanks film is, but there is one in particular that he wishes had more attention.
The Hollywood legend is known for a variety of roles, including voicing Woody in Toy Story and portraying the title character in the 1994 romantic comedy Forrest Gump.
However, the 66-year-old considers Road to Perdition, released in 2002, to be one of his most significant works.
Tom plays Michael Sullivan in the drama, which follows an assassin on the run after his son sees his boss’s death. As a result, he is conflicted between being loyal to his boss and protecting his own child.
The director co-stars in the crime picture with Daniel Craig, Jude Law, and Stanley Tucci, among others.
Speaking fondly about the film, he told the ReelBlend podcast: ‘For one reason or another, no one references Road to Perdition, and that was an incredibly important movie for me to go through.’

He continued: ‘It was shot by Conrad Hall, and you have me in it, Don Moustache with a hat on it, but you also have two guys who turned out to be two of the biggest motion picture presences in the history of the industry with Jude and Daniel. And I killed both of them…’
He also suggested that the film could become an ‘obscure’ part of cinema: ‘People always say, “What movies will they be talking about years from now?”
‘As a guy who watches Turner Classic Movies a lot, the more obscure and unknown a movie from 1940s or 1950s the better, because I have no preconceived notions about it; I don’t know anything about it.

‘When you watch those movies and it’s crackerjack and it’s incredibly moving, all I can think of is, “I’m so glad this movie lasts forever, so I got a chance to revisit it now.” That might be the case with Road To Perdition.’
Despite Tom’s want for more discussion of Road to Perdition, there’s no doubt that the film was well received upon its initial release.
On a $80 million (£66 million) budget, the critically acclaimed project earned $183.4 million (£150.4 million).
While the producer-star of A Man Called Otto was not nominated for any major prizes for his starring role, his co-stars were.
Late actor Paul Newman was nominated for both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for his portrayal of John Rooney, and late cinematographer Conrad L. Hall received a posthumous Oscar for outstanding photography.
However, over two decades later, the film actor has amassed an impressive collection of awards, including two Academy Awards, seven Primetime Emmys, four Golden Globes, and two Screen Actors Guild Awards.
In more recent roles, he co-starred in the Elvis Presley biography with Austin Butler, voiced Geppetto in 2022’s Pinocchio, and, of course, is constantly appearing in re-runs of classics like You’ve Got Mail, Saving Mr. Banks, and The Polar Express, to mention a few.
