Right Said Fred have claimed that Beyonce did not ask permission to sample their song I’m Too Sexy for her track Alien Superstar, and have branded her ‘arrogant’.
The British band, who released I’m Too Sexy as their debut single in 1991, spoke out on Beyonce’s track, which came as part of her highly-anticipated album Renaissance.
‘Normally the artist approaches us but Beyonce didn’t because she is such an arrogant person she just had probably thought “come and get me” so we heard about it after the fact when you did,’ brothers Fred and Richard Fairbrass said. ‘But everyone else, Drake and Taylor Swift, they came to us.’
They added to The Sun: ‘To use our melody they need our permission so they send us the demo and we approve it and if so we get a co-write credit.
‘With this Beyoncé thing there are 22 writers it’s ridiculous so we would get about 40p.’
They went on to say there’s ‘nothing they can do’ and that it’s ‘best to let it go’.
Beyonce released Renaissance in August, with the album shooting straight to the top of the charts, and there now being talk of the Break My Soul hitmaker hitting the road next year for a tour.
However, the album wasn’t without its bumps in the road.

She came under fire for including an ableist lyric in her song Heated, with reps later confirming that the lyric would be replaced, just as Lizzo had done weeks earlier with her song Grrrls.
‘The word, not used intentionally in a harmful way, will be replaced,’ they said.
Beyonce also removed an interpolation of Kelis’s song Milkshake from her song Energy after facing backlash from the singer.
Interpolation in music refers to using either parts or the whole melody of a previously recorded song, but re-recording the melody rather than sampling the original.
After the release of Beyonce’s new album, Kelis took to social media to call out the use of her music, claiming she had been unaware it was going to be on Beyonce’s track Energy.
Responding to a fan who commented that Beyoncé and Kelis is ‘a collab the world really needs,’ she said: ‘It’s not a collab it’s theft.’
Kelis went on: ‘My mind is blown too because the level and disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding.
‘I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled.’
Kelis later said she was happy the interpolation was removed, adding: ‘I won’.
